7TH-GRADE SCIENCE & THE SCOTT AQUARIUM

photo Mrs. McDowell's 7th-grade science students visit the Scott Aquarium at the Henry Doorly Zoo. Julie & Rubin talk about ocean life and conservation.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for inviting me to be part of your enrichment visit to the Zoo! How much do you remember about what Julie & Rubin told you?

Click here to try this cool online puzzle to find out!

Hint: Even if the answer is two words, there will be NO space between those words.

I've included a few pictures from your visit to the Zoo on this page. I hope that you'll plan more Science Enrichment visits over the distance learning system ... your students did a great job at being organized and participating. I'd enjoy joining you all again!

STUDENTS: Remember, you are welcome to email me a few sentences about what you liked about the Zoo connection, what you learned that you didn't know before, what you thought was "cool" ... anything you'd like!

Who knows, you might be quoted in our next newsletter ... My email is dpenner@esu5.org

Thanks, Duveen

Mrs. McDowell's 7th Grade Science Class

photo

Julie and Rubin from the Henry Doorly Zoo were on hand to tell about ocean life and conservation, and to answer student questions.

As the submarine camera makes its way below the surface of the water, the image is blurry ...

Once below the surface of the water, the camera gives students the feeling that they are actually "in" the aquarium!

Each student had at least one question prepared and ready to ask. A designated "interview" chair made it easier for Julie and Rubin to see who they were talking to.

Julie and Rubin also took the 7th-graders "behind the scenes" on top of the aquarium, a place few public visitors get to see.

Julie shows the class a conch shell and speaks about overfishing and the depletion of the ocean as a resource.

There was time for Q&A throughout the session.

Students were able to see many examples of ocean life...

More questions ...

Students were in their own classroom for this session. The image was projected on a screen in front of the classroom.

Thanks to Mrs. McDowell for setting up this enrichment visit to the Henry Doorly Zoo!
