If You Don't Have
An FCC RN |
| The SNDLC staff has completed the application process for acquiring e-Rate discounts for the Funding Year 2005-2006. As part of the application process, SLD is requiring all school districts and entity sites to obtain an FCC Registration Number (FCC RN).
The SLD is requiring that schools obtain an FCC Registration Number for each Billed Entity (District) and Entities within the district (High School, Middle School, all Elementary sties, and Administration Building).
The goal is to replace the SLD Billed Entity and site Entity Numbers currently being used. We have been informed that the SLD will request a FCC RN when the SLD Program Integrity Assurance Team does their review of this application.
If your school district does not have an FCC RN, your eRate Form 471 could be delayed in the reviewing process. If you have not already done so, please go to the FCC website at www.fcc.gov and complete the process.
For help during this process, please contact the SNDLC Office.

ELEMENTARY SPANISH ON THE AIR |
Distance Learning is being used to bring Spanish instruction to elementary students and teachers in seven school districts in the ESU No. 5 service area.
Funded by the Foreign Language Assistance Program, InterConnect Spanish reaches 750 students and nearly 50 teachers each week. Zoe Louton is the Project Director; Eryn Sunday is the DL Spanish instructor.
The Interconnect Spanish program uses a variety of approaches to bring language learning to elementary students. Classroom teachers show an instructional video series in their classrooms, reinforce lesson material with their students, and attend distance learning staff development sessions with Eryn and Zoe on a regular basis.
Eryn meets with each class of students via Distance Learning for 25 minutes a week. Using interactive PowerPoint, games and songs, video, the document camera, and hands-on activities, Eryn makes the conversational part of foreign language learning come alive for her students.

SOUND GOES WIRELESS ON NEW MEDIA CARTS |
The new wireless audio microphone systems have been placed on all Elementary Spanish carts within Educational Service Unit No. 5 school districts. The same system will also be featured on the K-Nection desktop Media Carts.
This new microphone was specifically designed to perform with our desktop video conferencing unit. Other SNDLC applications are being explored.
Click here for directions on how to use this microphone system.
