SYSTEM
UPGRADE Q&A
When will
my distance learning system be upgraded?
DFS will
contact schools in advance to schedule a time for the upgrade.
Can DFS
modify the cart configuration to include a second video input
for a VCR, Elmo or computer?
Yes, DFS can
add a second video input to a cart at the time of the upgrade.
DFS has projected that it would take approximately two hours to
enable a second video input. The cost for that upgrade would be
at member expense, and would be billed at the same hourly rate
as maintenance.
Please notify
DFS of your intention to have this feature added to your cart.
Remember that adding a VCR input also requires a audio input;
the presentation computer would require a scan converter.
Who owns
the existing distance learning room computers and the podium monitor?
The school
district owns the system computers.
- Static
Classroom: 2 system computers
- Standard
DL Cart: 1 system computer
- Extended
DL Cart: 2 system computers
A new podium
monitor will also replace the monitor found in the static classroom
and the extended carts.
What can
the district do with the old computers and monitors?
The district
may keep the computers and the podium monitor. After all PowerPlay
software has been erased, the equipment may be used in a lab or
classroom setting. New software such as Microsoft Office may be
added. (Please note that these computers are running the NT operating
system.)
If a school
district does not want to retain DL system computers and podium
monitor, the SNDLC Board has suggested that this equipment could
be picked up by DFS at the time of the upgrade, stored at one
location, and then donated to a school wanting to create a lab.
