IPCONTACT SOFTWARE UPGRADES
DFS will remotely install IPContact software upgrades to all SNDLC video conferencing equipment starting the week of December 20 through January 6. The upgrade will ensure that SNDLC is in compliance with the state recommended video standard H.264.
In order to do the install remotely, it is extremely important that you keep all distance learning computers turned on and connected to an ethernet port linked to the video network during the holiday break.
DFS will remotely install the software on the following computers:
- Static classrooms
- Extended DL carts
- First-generation carts
- Nursing Carts
- DL media carts used for enrichment, elementary Spanish, and some high school shared courses
If you are not sure that your DL equipment is properly connected, please call DFS. They will be able to tell you if they have access to your equipment.
If DFS is unable to access your DL equipment remotely, this could mean that your system will not be in compliance with the state-recommended video standard. In that case, DFS would have to do an on-site upgrade.
Please note that SNDLC will not pay to have someone go to your school to do this on-site upgrade. Any cost associated with on-site upgrades will be at the member district's cost.
ECHO CANCELLERS TO BE REPLACED
SNDLC is pleased to announce that the 10-year-old echo cancellers currently being used in your static classrooms, extended carts and first generation carts will be replaced with a state-of-the-art digital Polycom Vortex EF2280. The new technology should greatly improve the quality of audio throughout the SNDLC distance learning system.
Funding for the purchase and installation of the new echo cancellers is being provided by the K-Nection grant. Pilot sites have been selected to receive the first install. After the capability & system tests have been completed at the pilot sites, installations at all other sites will be scheduled.
Cytek Media System of Topeka, KS will notify you several days in advance of your installation date. Cytek will do their best to minimize disruptions to the daily routine at your school. However, for SNDLC to do the installation in a cost-effective manner, access to your school site on days when the installation crews are in your area is greatly appreciated.
SNDLC would normally schedule an installation of this magnitude during the summer; however, since this is the last year of the K-Nection grant, projects must be completed before March 15th. We are very fortunate to have had K-Nection grant funds to assist us in many of the upgrades and new projects that were made available to SNDLC members.
SNDLC staff appreciates your cooperation during these two very critical upgrades. We realize this is a busy time of the year for you; however, opportunities such as this are not always available during times that are convenient to everyone.
